AV Festival 08 is organised by Audio Visual Arts North East, an independent charitable company established for charitable purposes in March 2007. The charitable object of Audio Visual Arts North East is to promote electronic art for public benefit in the North East of England.

The primary activity of Audio Visual Arts North East is to deliver the biennial AV Festival, but it may also undertake other activities and projects that are in line with its charitable objective. The company continues to 'trade' as the AV Festival, but uses it's legal name when entering into formal arrangements. The company is governed by a Board of Trustee Directors, chaired by Mark Dobson. The other members of the Board of Trustee are:

  • Kari Vickers, currently the Community Arts Development Manager for Sunderland Council based at City Library & Arts Centre in Sunderland. She is Vice-Chair of the Board.
  • Jenny Hall, a senior manager in the Arts Development team at Middlesbrough Council and is based at Stewart Park in Middlesbrough.
  • Sally Jane Norman, who hails from New Zealand, and was resident for many years in France. She is now the Director of Culture Lab at Newcastle University.
  • Iain Watson, presently Assistant Director of Tyne & Wear Museums, based at Discovery Museum in Newcastle.
  • Carol Cooke, a writer and media producer presently working for the BBC in Newcastle
  • Paul Collard, a cultural organiser who is currently National Director of Creative Partnerships. He has worked with the Institute of Contemporary Arts, the British Film

Institute and many other organisations, has served as Director of the UK Year of Visual Arts in the North East of England, and was Creative Director of the Newcastle Gateshead Capital of Culture bid and of Culture10 until December 2004.

AV Festival has a small team of dedicated staff and experienced freelancers. The team will expand as the dates of the festival draw closer. We work closely with evolve who will help co-ordinate over 100 volunteers to assist with the Festival. We currently have three envoys through the evolve volunteer placement scheme, talented young people between 16-25 who are starting their career in arts management.

The personnel who are managing the AV Festival have significant experience in project managing, curating and directing festivals and cultural events in the North East of England.

The Festival Director, Honor Harger, preceded over the delivery of the 2006 AV Festival, which delivered 90 events in 3 cities in 10 days. Prior to working on AV Festival, Honor curated the programme of webcasting at Tate Modern in London.

The Consultant Producer, Michelle Hirschhorn has over ten year
